Happy Losar (Tibetan New Year)!
Wishing all of you an auspicious Tibetan Happy New Year. This Losar is the year of the Fire Bird. Yay! A year of Phoenix. We will rise like a phoenix and move forward with our life's journey into our pursuit of happiness. People of Tibet and the Himalayan region areas follow the Lunar Tibetan Zodiac calendar. The bird is the 10th sign of the zodiac which appears in the Tibetan calendar every 12-year cycle. 2018 will be the Year of the Dog.
Traditionally Tibetans use the last day of the year to clean the environment, saying farewell to any bad aspects and negativities. Please join us from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on February 26th 2017 for the equivalent, Emaho Center's spring cleaning and purification.
Welcome to the Year of the Fire Bird. Please join Geshe-la as we bring in the new Tibetan year with traditional morning prayers on February 27th. From 4:30am-5:00am please join us for coffee and a light continental breakfast. From 5:00am-6:00am, traditional morning prayers.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama took the opportunity of Losar to say:
Since everybody wants to be happy, and no one wants to miserable, the cause of happiness is giving benefit and joy. If you create the causes of happiness, if you lead your life in benefiting others and not harming them, that's a meaningful life, a life that has "Tashi" (good fortune). On that basis saying "Tashi Delek" means "may you be happy in the here and now and, as we Buddhists say, may you finally achieve definitive goodness".
This year, 2017, the children's youth program will center around the 8 Auspicious symbols. We will set up a small traditional Tibetan altar. Each class we will focus on one of the symbols. We will discuss and do a corresponding craft. Each class will close with a short loving kindness meditation. the Children's Youth Program will meet the third Sunday of the month from 10:00am-11:00am. We look forward to seeing you and we look forward to meeting new students.
To ensure we have adequate art supplies and snacks, please RSVP email@example.com
The 2017 Emaho Teen group, under the direction of ZaChoeje Rinpoche, will study the science of Mindfulness Meditation. Each month we will practice a different type of Mindfulness Meditation. All teens are welcome. The Teen group meets the third Sunday of the month from 9:00am-10:00am. We look forward to seeing you.
By request Geshe-la will teach beginning Tibetan language, an 8-week series of classes, starting Saturday November 19, from 10-11.
This class will be a practical introduction of the Tibetan alphabet from which we build vocabulary and sentence patterns. By practicing and memorizing the Tibetan alphabet we can begin to build basic dialogs. This will prepare the student to begin to converse in Tibetan.
