Geshe Lobsang Chophel

geshe_lobsand_chophel.jpgWe are extremely fortunate to have Geshe Lobsang Chophel join us as Emaho’s resident spiritual teacher. Geshe entered the monastery and has studied Tibetan Buddhism for over twenty-five years. He completed his study in the five major treatises of Buddhism, Tibetan literature and history of the Gelugpa tradition at Drepung Loseling Monastery.

Geshe-la, "Honored Geshe," graduated receiving the esteemed Geshe Lharampa degree. A Geshe degree is the equivalent of a Western PhD. The Lharampa honor is equivalent to a PhD graduating summa cum laude.

Geshe Lobsang edited several books by Doboom Rinpoche, past Director of the Tibet House and a current Trustee of the World Buddhist Cultural Trust. Geshe Lobsang has written two books on Buddhism and is currently working on his third.

Geshe's books, in Tibetan, expound on the teachings of the great master Lama Tsong-Kha-pa, the founder of the Gelug Lineage into The Great Exposition on the Gradual Path to Enlightenment (Lam Rim Chenmo). These texts form the basis of our contemporary understanding of Buddha's teachings.

Geshe will teach and help us study the three principal aspects of the path, leading us ultimately to the full realization of the aspects of renunciation, bodhicitta, and emptiness.

Geshe-la is extremely approachable. He has quickly established himself as a good and tremendous source of spiritual help. He is available to teach one on one, give requested classes and blessings. Geshe-la is a precious resource and great repository of the vast wisdom and compassion of Buddha. Dedicated to spiritual practice and the wellbeing of others, he exemplifies vast inspiration. May we take advantage of his kindness for the sake of all.
